A Lombardian Romanesque brick church with arched corbel tables, a sturdy tower, and flaking paint. | |
Today the church is celebrating its 100th year
anniversary at 96 South 9th in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The church was
opened for service in January 1905. The building was designed and built
by James Rodwell who often worked with Patrick C. Keely. James Rodwell
later became a Fire Commissioner. The Church building and the Chapel,
located on South 10th, was built in 1874 for the Universalist Church,
All Souls. It was then purchased by the Reverend John L. Belford for a
new Roman Catholic Church: The Church of the Epiphany. This information was obtained, in the form of several letters, in January 30, 1980, from the Universalist Church's archivist, then James Wilson Parker. The Universalist Church was in 1980, located on Ditmas and Ocean Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11226. I have attached a photo of the Building as it was in the 1980's. The current pastor is interested in renovating the interior to its original detail in the near future. The front of building is a present project that soon will be addressed.
